This township. from which the Shire takes its name, has a history as old as the settlement of the district. and was formerly known as Woodport-a name notably appropriate in the old days, when vessels came up the creek from Brisbane Water and took away many thousands of pounds' worth of fine timber. At the junction of the Terrigal and Wamberal roads. at the eastern end of the town, an effective Memorial has been erected to the men of the district who fell in the Great War; and this is the site of commemorative gatherings on Anzac Day. |
